The Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has signed a US$25m contract with Tetra Tech Inc., who will oversee the development of Phase 1 to world class smart city building standards. The Master Delivery Partner 2 (MDP2) is a consortium of 10 firms drawn from the USA, Germany, Netherlands, UAE and Kenya (5 local firms). Tetra Tech Inc. of Denver, Colorado (USA) is the lead firm and their experience includes master plan-level design, identifying and structuring financing for sustainable options to city- and project-scale construction management. They help both developers and governments find profitable, practical solutions to building the cities of tomorrow. Their expertise comprises of architects, engineers, land lease experts, financial experts, etc. MDP2 will work with KoTDA to oversee Financial Planning; Project Communications; Development Guidelines; Land Administration; Design Management and Construction Management for the project. The Phase 1 Master Plan will begin on a 400-acre piece of land and will include 1.5Mm2 of initial real estate development (1.1Mm2 residential, 100,000m2 commercial office, 200,000m2 University and dormitory & 100,000m2 amenity space). Full build out of Phase 1 is expected to attract 30,000 residents, 7,500 knowledge workers, and 16,700 other workers. It is envisaged that this will be a sufficient critical mass to demonstrate the type of high quality physical and attractive business environment that will catalyze the subsequent 20 years of development on the remaining 4,500 acres of KTC land.
