Konza Project:

Transforming the Kenyan Economy; building on the foundations of a knowledge based workforce and technology based entrepreneurship.

As a flagship project of Kenya’s Vision 2030 economic development plan, Konza Technopolis is set out to advance Kenya’s knowledge-based economy by developing a sustainable Smart City and an innovation ecosystem. In pursuit of becoming a leading global technology and innovation hub, efforts have been concentrated around three target industries—ITES/ICT, Life Sciences, and Engineering—that will attract a diverse set of world-class tenants and residents. Enhancing these industries will be Commercial Partners, Education and Research & Development activities, with support from retail, residential development, public services and private services.

Konza Technopolis, was inspired by the rapid development of global Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) enterprises with estimated global offshore revenue projected to reach US$ 300 billion by 2015. However, statistics indicate that Africa only attracts about 1% of the total revenues accruing from this growing industry, and Kenya is aptly positioned to attracting sizeable off shore BPO/ ITES trade revenues. Backed by finding from Strategic Environmental and Social Assessments; Legal and Regulatory Due Diligence Studies; and Demand Assessments; the Konza Master Plan was completed in 2013.on the economic and social viability of the creating such a space, the development of Konza Technopolis was anticipated to immensely contribute to economic development when successfully implemented.
